The library at the Illinois College of Optometry offers a variety of services and is happy to support the needs of not only students and faculty but also alumni and visitors to campus.

Library support services

  • Copies of journal articles
  • Book collection loans
  • Access to online library catalog
  • Loansome Doc services
  • Literature searches of databases like PubMed (MEDLINE), VisionCite and more

VisionCite is the library’s specialized index of the vision science literature. It features nearly 400,000 optometric and ophthalmic citations from 1984-present. The index also features 120 titles, including many not available in PubMed. Approximately 12,000 titles are added each year. ICO alumni receive a 20 percent discount on VisionCite access, and Leadership Circle members can access VisionCite for free. Contact Library Director Christine Weber for subscription information.

Library Donations

The library staff is happy to accept book and journal donations from alumni. All material donated is evaluated. However, ICO policy prohibits the library from placing values on the items. The library reserves the right to add the material to the collection, or offer the material to other libraries or directly to students and faculty.
