ICO Library

The Illinois College of Optometry Library offers a variety of services to the faculty, staff, residents and students of the Illinois College of Optometry and the Illinois Eye Institute. Library staff members are dedicated to supporting the academic and career success of our students by providing effective collections and quality library and academic services. The Library also looks after the reference and research needs of our alumni. Visitors to our campus may be granted access to some of our Library resources with advance permission.

Library Collections

The ICO Library collections are both physical and digital. We offer 24/7 access to the Library catalog, which includes approximately 24,000 books, 114 print serials, and thousands of electronic resources. These include: many digital and open access serials, e-books, (including the Springer e-book Medicine collection), PubMed (MEDLINE), VisionCite, Science Direct, Ebscohost, Nursing Reference Center, CINAHL Complete, Academic Search Complete, Oxford Scholarship Neuroscience, AAAS Science Online, Mango, Primal Pictures, Cochrane Complete, the Sage e-reference collection, ProQuest Medical Library, as well as access to the vast collections of the Center for Research Libraries. DVDs and streaming video collections include: Nursing Therapy in Video and Rehabilitation Therapy in Video.

VisionCite is a journal citation index database of vision-related journals that was developed by the Illinois College of Optometry Library. To date, approximately 315,000 articles from medical, ophthalmic, optic, optometric, and vision-related journals have been indexed and are available to search. The ICO Library keeps the VisionCite database up-to-date by regularly indexing over 114 print and many open source and digital vision-related journals; approximately 12,000 additional new citations are added annually. It is recommended that for best results VisionCite is used in conjunction with PubMed (Medline). This will enable more complete retrieval of both vision-related historical and current journal articles.

To purchase a subscription to VisionCite, please contact the ICO Library Director.
