Overview

The Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) is the largest and oldest educational institution dedicated solely to the teaching of optometrists in the United States.

History
Illinois College of Optometry was founded in 1872 by Henry Olin. Over the years, through mergers and consolidations, it has established itself as one of the world’s leading urban optometric institutions and has been serving the Chicagoland community for over 135 years.

Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) and Bachelor of Science in Visual Science (BSVS), also in conjunction with the University of Chicago: Master of Science (M.S.) or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

Licenses / Accreditations
The Illinois College of Optometry holds professional accreditation from the Council on Optometric Education of the American Optometric Association which is a member of the Council on Post Secondary Accreditation.

The College is also accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, from which ICO received the strongest possible endorsement from an accrediting body.

Illinois Eye Institute
The Illinois Eye Institute (IEI) is the clinical arm of the Illinois College of Optometry and manages over 85,000 patient visits annually. IEI is a multi-specialty eye care center that serves patients from metropolitan Chicago, the United States and throughout the world. Eyecare professionals at the forefront of their profession combine their expertise to bring patients the latest developments in vision correction, diagnosis of eye disease and comprehensive treatment. All members of the professional staff hold a faculty appointment at either the Illinois College of Optometry or University of Chicago. IEI is the top Medicaid provider in the state of Illinois for eye care.
