The Illinois College of Optometry is located only minutes from Chicago's famous Loop and Gold Coast, ICO resides in an educational and health care corridor along with Illinois Institute of Technology, University of Chicago, and Michael Reese and Mercy Medical Centers.

Chicago's reputation as the center of advanced learning and health care in the Midwestern United States is well deserved. Over 50 colleges and universities reside in metropolitan Chicago including many dedicated to the health care disciplines. As an educational mecca, scholars from around the world come to Chicago to exchange ideas.

Chicago is an exciting cultural center featuring sports, recreation, and world-class dining one would expect from one of the world's leading metropolitan centers. ICO is minutes away from such landmarks as the Art Institute, the Field Museum of Natural History, Orchestra Hall, the Civic Opera, the Oriental Institute Museum, the Du Sable Museum of African American History, the Museum of Science and Industry and many theaters and clubs. The Loop is a short train ride away from the College.

Music lovers can enjoy year-round entertainment ranging from Chicago's famous jazz and blues clubs to summer rock festivals or the world-renowned Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Whether it's Broadway shows, the famous Second City comedy troupe, or an array of improvisational theater groups, Chicago is home to some of the finest entertainers in the country. There is always an exciting production to enjoy.

Sports enthusiasts, take note: Chicago is your kind of town. With the Chicago White Sox, Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks, and Bulls, as well as many fine college teams, there's always plenty of action.

Not far away from ICO is Lake Michigan, an enticing lakefront of beaches and parks; with boat facilities, tennis courts, jogging and bicycle trails, a golf course and the famous Lincoln Park Zoo.

Visitors to the College enter the campus through the Indiana Avenue entrance. It is important that all visitors sign in with security/reception at the Indiana Avenue entrance.

Visitor parking is available in the circular driveway on the Indiana Avenue side of the campus. If you are visiting the College for an Admissions Interview, please display the "Visitor Parking Pass" on your dashboard. Please note that the paved lot on 32nd Street and Michigan is reserved for clinic patients.

Arriving from the North (O'hare airport or Wisconsin)
  • Take the I-90 East/I-94 East to 31st Street exit, exit #54
  • Turn Left (east) onto 31st Street
  • Take 31st Street to Michigan Ave. turn right (south)
  • Take Michigan Ave. to 33rd Street, turn left (east)
  • Take 33rd Street one block to Indiana Ave., turn left (north)
  • Take Indiana Ave. approximately 1/2 block to ICO entrance

Arriving from the South (Indiana)

  • Take I-90 West/I-94 West to 31st Street exit, exit #54
  • Turn Right (east) onto 31st Street
  • Take 31st Street to Michigan Ave., turn right (south)
  • Take Michigan Ave. to 33rd Street, turn left (east)
  • Take 33rd Street one block to Indiana Ave., turn left (north)
  • Take Indiana Ave. approximately 1/2 block to ICO entrance

Arriving from the West or Southwest

  • Take I-290 Eisenhower Expressway/East or I-55 Stevenson Expressway/North to I-90/94 Ryan Expressway South toward Indiana
  • Exit at 31st Street, exit #54
  • Turn Left (east) onto 31st Street
  • Take 31st Street to Michigan Ave., turn right (south)
  • Take Michigan Ave. to 33rd Street, turn left (east)
  • Take 33rd Street one block to Indiana Ave., turn left (north)
