Make A Gift
The last few days have provided many stellar opportunities for holiday shopping- Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. Today is Giving Tuesday
. On this special day, we hope you’ll join the Illinois College of Optometry in offering care to the less fortunate.
All money gifted to ICO on Dec 1 will go toward our Charitable Care Eyeglass Program. This initiative provides glasses, frames, and corrective lenses to adults and children who can’t otherwise afford them.
Just $30 buys a pair of eyeglasses for one adult or child. Just imagine the number of people you could help with a gift of $100 or more!
As an extra incentive to participate in this year’s Giving Tuesday, an anonymous donor has offered $15,000 to match your generosity. Qualifying for the matching dollars is easy:
- If you have never made a gift to ICO or haven’t made a gift in the past year, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar up to and including $3,750.
- If you have made a gift to ICO in the past year, any amount over your last gift will be matched again dollar for dollar up to and including $3,750.
Take a few minutes to explore Chicago through different eyes. Interact with the below images to see just how much a pair of glasses helps a Chicagoan in need.
Your family is visiting from the suburbs, and you can’t wait to show them Chicago. You promised you’d take them downtown for some holiday shopping. Is it clear which train is headed for The Loop?
You’re walking the Magnificent Mile. Your whole family is in awe of the holiday decorations and elaborate window displays. Is the sale at Express big enough to draw you in?
There’s one thing you’ve always wanted to show your family: the thrilling view from The Ledge at Willis Tower Skydeck. Can you see your house from here?
The next stop on your journey is The Lincoln Park Zoo. There’s a lot to see, but your littlest family member loves lions the most. Can you find the big cats on the map?
The lions should be in this exhibit. Are these just rocks, or is the king of the jungle actually outside?
At first glance, this pond looks tranquil. However, thanks to your trusty glasses, the many creatures enjoying the water are revealed. How many ducks can you count?
The Lincoln Park Conservatory is right next to the Zoo. You pop in to escape the chilly air. Sharp vision helps you see exotic plants up close. Can you read the names of these specimens without squinting?
As your loved ones board the Metra to head home, they promise to come back in the summer. They can’t wait to catch a Cubs game. Just make sure your family visits the Illinois Eye Institute before then, so everyone can see the scoreboard!
A family picnic at 57th St. Beach. A movie in Oz Park. A selfie at Cloud Gate, a.k.a. The Bean. What Chicago-style fun do you take for granted, and would you be willing to give these experiences to someone else?
