The Residential Complex, located directly across the street from the Illinois College of Optometry, is a safe, convenient housing option available to all students that is unlike anything available at other optometry schools. Built in 1995 and accommodating up to 200 students, the RC offers students a friendly community atmosphere and easy access to all of ICO’s amenities. Each school year the RC organizes dozens of events for students, including outings to professional sporting events, trips to Second City and Broadway in Chicago productions, finals week study breaks and much more.
The complex also includes a recreation area with table tennis, billiards and foosball; a sun deck; a patio complete with a gas barbecue; a computer lab; study and social lounges with flat-screen TVs; meeting rooms; a laundry facility; and 24/7 security staff. All accommodations include wireless internet access; comprehensive meal plans to ICO’s cafeteria across the street are also available. Read a student’s perspective on living in the RC.
The RC features multiple housing options:
The RC’s first, second and third floors are composed of three-room suites. Three people live in each suite, featuring a single bedroom, a double bedroom and a large bathroom with a shower, toilet and sink. This unique arrangement provides convenience, comfort, and privacy. Each person is provided with the following furnishings: extra-long twin bed with under-bed storage, bedside lamp, study desk with built-in lighting, large closet, dresser, nightstand, satellite television and internet.
The RC’s fourth floor features one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, which are assigned based on year of enrollment. Each apartment resident has their own bedroom, featuring the same furnishings as the bedrooms in the suites. Additionally, the apartments have a fully furnished living area, as well as a kitchen that includes a stove, microwave, full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, table and chairs or bar with bar stools.
