Winters, OD, FAAO Elizabeth Wyles, OD, FAAO Xiaohua Zhuang, PhD, FAAO Rebecca K. Zoltoski, PhD Why ICO? I believe that ICO is the ideal optometry school for prospective students for many reasons. The highly qualified faculty strive to provide a nurturing environment to students and embody true passion for the field of optometry. This can be seen in the ongoing research projects, publications in prominent optometry journals, awards and academic affiliations. The courses, laboratories and clinic all prepare the student clinician so that they are able to practice at the highest scope once they have graduated and entered their professional careers. The clinic provides exposure to a challenging patient population at the Illinois Eye Institute and access to state-of-the-art equipment, both of which also prepare the future optometrist well. Finally, Chicago is one of the best cities in the world. Having the opportunity to obtain an optometric degree with all the conveniences of home in such an amazing city is a combination that cannot be surpassed. Biography Dr. Sanghera earned her optometry degree from the State University of New York College of Optometry in 2006. She completed her residency in primary care and ocular disease from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2007. She then joined Walter Reed Army Medical Center from 2006 until January 2011, providing care to veterans and active duty military members and their families. In 2011, Dr. Sanghera became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and returned to ICO as a full-time faculty member. She is an active member in the clinic and laboratories. Winters, OD, FAAO Elizabeth Wyles, OD, FAAO Xiaohua Zhuang, PhD, FAAO Rebecca K. Zoltoski, PhD Why ICO? As much as I have enjoyed full-time direct patient care over the past 10 years, I’m ready to embrace more of my natural creative interests. My goal is to bring more diverse young, active, and influential minds into the profession of optometry, and ensure that new graduates are mentally equipped for the complexities of patient care and life after graduation. Biography I have been practicing optometry since 2011. Emergency eye care is my favorite mode of practice. The more complex, the better. I have a gift of making meaningful connections with patients; and I have learned that resolving a one’s sudden eye care needs often results in an even stronger doctor-patient relationship. I am new to the Chicago area and I look forward to working with staff, faculty, and students here at ICO. As a runner, I also look forward to all the scenic areas to catch a few miles. Winters, OD, FAAO Elizabeth Wyles, OD, FAAO Xiaohua Zhuang, PhD, FAAO Rebecca K. Zoltoski, PhD Why ICO? One of the biggest draws of ICO is the amazing clinical experience that our students receive. As we are located in a large city and serve a very diverse population, our students are exposed to a wide range of ocular conditions and situations. This is challenging, highly rewarding and truly the best preparation for becoming a well- rounded and competent clinician. Biography After graduating from ICO, Dr. Foreman moved to New York to do a residency in ocular disease and primary care at the Brooklyn and St. Albans VA medical centers. Upon completing the residency, she stayed on as a full-time staff optometrist at the Manhattan VA. In addition to seeing general primary care patients, she spent a great deal of time working with veterans who had suffered a traumatic brain injury. Traumatic brain injury remains an area of interest. After four years at the VA, she relocated to Chicago and joined on as full-time faculty at ICO. Dr. Foreman works with students mainly in primary care clinics. ICO is a well-established and esteemed college of optometry, turning out some of the best and brightest in the field. Its deep history, urban setting, and dedicated faculty make it an ideal location to learn optometry. Biography Dr. Koenig joined the faculty at ICO in 2018. He assists in 1st and 2nd year clinical methods and procedures labs and optics courses. Dr. Koenig developed an interest in teaching at an optometric institution after initially overseeing 4th year students on rotation in San Antonio, Texas. ICO is an ideal location and provides an exciting and rewarding opportunity to pursue my interest in teaching the skills and ideas of optometry to newer generations of students.
