Biography Jennifer S. Harthan, OD is a graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO). After completing a Residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses at ICO, she became a full-time faculty member. Dr. Harthan is a Professor at ICO and Chief of the Cornea Center for Clinical Excellence at the Illinois Eye Institute. Dr. Harthan is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Scleral Lens Education Society and serves on the Medical Advisory Board for the International Keratoconus Academy. Dr. Harthan is a founding member of the SCOPE (Scleral Lenses in Current Ophthalmic Practice Evaluation) research team. She has numerous publications on the topics of complex contact lens fits and anterior segment disease. Dr. Harthan is actively involved in ocular surface disease and contact lens research and lectures on these topics at national and international meetings. When it came time to decide what to do after residency, teaching was a natural fit for my strengths. At ICO, there are so many opportunities for students to discover their talents and to grow as clinicians, colleagues, and friends. You will end your ICO journey as a confident, prepared, and capable optometrist. Biography Dr. Sicks graduated magna cum laude from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2006 with a BA in Biology. She received her OD from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2010 and went on to complete a residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses at Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry. While in Oklahoma, she was certified in and performed therapeutic anterior segment laser and minor surgical procedures. Currently, Dr. Sicks serves as an attending optometrist for third- and fourth-year interns in the Cornea Center for Clinical Excellence. She is also involved in the didactic training of students in specialty contact lenses and ophthalmic surgical procedures including injections, minor surgical procedures, and anterior segment laser therapy. She has delivered continuing education and presented research and posters at both local and national optometry meetings. Dr. Sicks is Chair of the Faculty-Student Liaison Committee for the American Academy of Optometry and also serves on their Leadership Task Force. She is a member of the Communications Committee for the Association of Optometric Contact Lens Educators. She is also a Gallup-certified Strengths Coach. Biography Dr. Randhawa completed her undergraduate education at Loyola University Chicago. Upon completion of her Doctor of Optometry degree at ICO she pursued a residency in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at ICO. Dr. Randhawa is a clinical attending for second, third, and fourth year students in the primary care and urgent care clinics of the Illinois Eye Institute. Messner is the Vice President for Strategy & Institutional Advancement at the Illinois College of Optometry. He holds the rank of Professor of Optometry at ICO. Dr. Messner is the immediate past Chair of the Neuro-ophthalmic Disorders Special Interest Group of the American Academy of Optometry. He is a member of the steering committee of the Fellows Doing Research Special Interest Group of the American Academy of Optometry, is a member of the advisory board of the Concussion Legacy Foundation and serves on the Concussion Research Committee of the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society. His predominant research interests include ocular structure and visual motor abnormalities with concussion, eye movements associated with the physical act of reading, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, psychophysical characteristics of optic neuritis, wide-field angiographic characteristics of diabetic retinopathy and low contrast color characteristics acuity characteristics of nonexudative and exudative age-related macular degeneration. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters in the areas of neuro-ophthalmic disorders and vitreoretinal disease. He is a two-time recipient of the American Academy of Optometry’s Service Appreciation award, the 2012 recipient of the Illinois College of Optometry’s Alumni Council Educator of the Year and was recognized as the Optometrist of the Year in Illinois in 2013. In 2019, Dr. Messner received the Presidential Medal of Honor from Salus University. In 2021, he was named in Newsweek America’s Best Eye Doctors 2021. He is a 24-time recipient of the “Teacher of the Year” award at the Illinois College of Optometry. The Illinois College of Optometry and the Illinois Eye Institute Provide the best in optometric education for students and clinical care for patients. I am fortunate to be surrounded by colleagues that are passionate about providing care for patients and inspiring students to become incredible optometrists. Biography Dr. Matchinski graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1995 and went on to a Vision Rehabilitation residency at the William Feinbloom Low Vision Rehabilitation Center of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Since completing her residency in 1996, she has practiced low vision rehabilitation full time. She practices at both The Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind and the Illinois College of Optometry. At the optometry school she teaches the vision rehabilitation course and lab as well as provides care in the Rosenbloom Center. Dr. Matchinski is an Associate Professor and a Low Vision Diplomate of the American Academy of Optometry. She is the World Council of Optometry Low Vision representative to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness. She has published and lectured both nationally and internationally on Low Vision Rehabilitation. She is also active in community service with VOSH, Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity. She is immediate past president of VOSH/International and VOSH Illinois. She does local and international volunteer clinics throughout the year. Outside of work, she is an avid traveler and dachshund mom. Biography Dr. McMahon graduated from SCO in 1998, completed a primary care residency at ICO in 1999, and began full time employment as an ICO faculty member immediately afterward. She has been involved in multiple services and areas of practice, with her current emphasis on primary care and ocular disease. She spent several years as part of a community clinic externship site and also several years in the pediatric outreach program. Dr. McMahon has been a didactic and laboratory instructor in the areas of clinical skills, ocular emergencies, ophthalmic optics, and injections. Among her other professional responsibilities, she has been an AOA committee chair/member as well as chair/member of the Illinois optometry board.
