About Illinois College of Optometry

Since 1872, we have been providing education and training and healthcare to communities throughout the US. Although optometry has changed over time, one thing remains the same: our commitment to excellence in education and patient care. Our location isn’t an accident, rather it gives us the opportunity to provide care to one of Chicago’s most vulnerable communities, while partnering with our patients to ensure our students receive a world class education.

At Illinois College of Optometry, our energy is focused on the teaching and practice of optometry as we strive to see that ‘none shall lack for proper care.’ That is why we do what we do every day.

Everyday, with every patient, and every student we have the opportunity to change lives for the better and make a difference.

ICO Strategic Plan

We are here to empower and enable the future ODs to be the best doctor they can be. In doing so, our alums bring our mission and values into their own corners of the world.

Our History

We’ve been focused on eye health and education, and have contributed to optometry from its roots to present day. For almost 150 years, we have empowered ODs to serve their patients and advance the profession to the best of their ability.
